Nestled in the heart of Perth, WA, Chef’s Edge is a premier supplier of handmade chef knives and accessories sourced directly from Japanese artisan blacksmiths. With a rich heritage tracing back centuries, their products represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship and authenticity, making them a trusted name among professional chefs and culinary enthusiasts alike.
Tasked with designing and installing traditional hand-painted signage, I aimed to create a piece that highlighted the exceptional origins of Chef’s Edge’s products. The focal point was a hand-painted map, crafted to showcase the artistry and lineage of their knives while resonating with their brand values of authenticity and quality.
The project began with thorough research into the company’s history and branding, ensuring the design reflected the unique story of their knives and blacksmith partners. Collaborating closely with Ben, one of Chef’s Edge’s owners, we developed a concept that would captivate their target audience and draw attention to the remarkable craftsmanship behind their products. Using traditional hand-painting techniques, the map was meticulously executed on the interior of a historic state building, blending seamlessly with its surroundings.
Once installed, the signage became an immediate conversation starter, drawing customers in and informing their purchasing decisions. The map not only celebrated the authenticity and heritage of Chef’s Edge’s products but also reinforced their commitment to quality and reliability.
This project was particularly meaningful to me, having been a loyal customer since Ben’s original shop in Fremantle, WA. Seeing their remarkable growth and being able to contribute to their journey was incredibly rewarding. The final result was a visually striking piece that perfectly encapsulated the essence of Chef’s Edge and their extraordinary offerings.
