Situated within the acclaimed Buxton Contemporary, Melbourne-based artist Nadine Christensen presented Around, a major survey exhibition that captivated audiences with its exploration of the unextraordinary. Known for her ability to reframe the everyday through meticulous and surreal compositions, Christensen’s work strikes a delicate balance between abstraction and the familiar.

Tasked with creating custom hand-painted signage for this landmark exhibition, I approached the project with traditional craftsmanship and a focus on harmony. The goal was to design signage that complemented Christensen’s artistic vision while seamlessly integrating with the exhibition’s overarching aesthetic. Using traditional hand-painting techniques and high-quality acrylic paints, I ensured the signage echoed the exhibition's ethos of precision and intentionality.

Each sign was hand-painted with meticulous care, ensuring that every detail contributed to a cohesive and immersive exhibition experience.

The resulting hand-painted signage elevated the exhibition environment, serving both as a practical guide for visitors and a subtle extension of Christensen’s artistic narrative. Feedback from gallery visitors and the curatorial team underscored the success of the project, with many noting the seamless integration of the signage with the surrounding artworks.

This collaboration highlighted the power of traditional techniques to enhance contemporary art spaces. Bringing craftsmanship to the forefront, the project reaffirmed the importance of attention to detail and creative alignment in delivering a meaningful contribution to such a significant exhibition.
